Myrtle Theatre Company creates ambitious original theatre that articulates the thoughts and feelings of people whose voices are often unheard.
“ I think the reason Myrtle is held in such high regard is due to the combination of rigour and flair in each of their endeavours. Each piece of work is created with deep intellect and rigour while being produced in a way which is infectiously affecting and open and available to all. “

Inclusivity informs the design and delivery of all our projects, engaging the widest possible audience through performance and participation opportunities.
We were co-founded in 2004 by Heather Williams, Artistic Director and Hilary Davis, Producer and Administrative Director along with Angela Athay Hunt. Based in Bristol and working throughout the UK, from 2004 - 2019 Heather and Hilary, along with over 50 freelance artists, creatives and their patron, writer Catherine Johnson, established a strong national reputation for their innovative work.
The company was relaunched in 2025 by Heather and Producer Morag Massey and the next chapter will build on Myrtle Theatre’s history of creating theatre that is both artistically ambitious and socially relevant. Up Down BIG Man and its accompanying engagement, research and skill development opportunities, will form a major strand in this programme and is supported by Arts Council England National Lottery project funding and in kind support from Bristol Old Vic. In addition we would especially like to thank our generous Patrons Joanna and Paul Pearson.
We are thrilled in our first year of operating to have again established an ongoing relationship with Wiltshire Creative.
We are indebted to a large number of people and organisations who have helped with in kind support to help launch Myrtle Theatre Company again. These include, the Bessell family, Keynsham and District Mencap, Henry Osadzinski for website design, Sim Seneca for logo design, and Joe Childs for our Just Giving video with original music by Kieran Buckeridge.
“Wiltshire Creative is delighted by the prospect of working in association with Myrtle Theatre Company, an organisation whose values and vision align with our own. Their commitment to artistic excellence and social relevance, combined with their particular skillsets and individual talents, brings fresh energy and perspective to our creative planning.”
